🏠 Coulter Fussell is coming home to COMU!

Columbus-born artist Coulter Fussell returns to The Columbus Museum this September with ‘The Proving Ground,’ her first museum-organized retrospective.

Celebrate with us September 12 from 3–7 PM for the Coulter Fussell Homecoming Celebration featuring the exhibition, live music from Frankie Mincey, food trucks, art activities, and a chance to meet the artist!

If you’d like to contribute to Coulter’s creative process, bring clean fabric to The Columbus Museum throughout ‘The Proving Ground.’ Donations will be shared with Coulter Fussell for possible use in future artworks, giving our community a chance to become part of her ongoing artistic practice.

Long before the familiar Fort Benning of today, the post was largely a “tent city” of rows of tents and hastily built wooden structures.

COMU`s collection offer a glimpse of Fort Benning in its early years, after the post moved to its permanent location south of Columbus in 1919.

And here’s a fun piece of history: from 1921–1946, Fort Benning had its own narrow-gauge railroad called the, “Dinky Line.” 🚂 At its peak, it stretched more than 27 miles across the post!

Can you believe this was already 100 years ago?
