Long before the familiar Fort Benning of today, the post was largely a “tent city” of rows of tents and hastily built wooden structures.

COMU`s collection offer a glimpse of Fort Benning in its early years, after the post moved to its permanent location south of Columbus in 1919.

And here’s a fun piece of history: from 1921–1946, Fort Benning had its own narrow-gauge railroad called the, “Dinky Line.” 🚂 At its peak, it stretched more than 27 miles across the post!

Can you believe this was already 100 years ago?

Did you know there used to be a pool in the Bradley Olmsted Garden? 😮

This 1940s photograph shows the pool house at the Bradley House, before the property became The Columbus Museum(COMU). Today, the pool is gone, but the pool house remains as a little piece of the Bradley House’s past tucked into the Museum’s garden. 🌿

Can you see how much has changed? And how much has stayed the same?
