February Festival: Celebrating Black History Month

February 21 @ 10:00 am - 2:00 pm

Join us at COMU for a day of creativity, community, and celebration during our February Festival honoring Black History Month. Visitors of all ages are invited to explore hands-on art making inspired by works in the Museum’s collection, participate in a family-friendly scavenger hunt, and engage with local organizations sharing their talents, stories, and creativity.

Throughout the day, enjoy special programming with community partners including the Carver High School Art Club, Kendrick High School Art Club, Liberty Theatre, Historic Columbus, and the Chattahoochee Valley Libraries. Timed activities will include docent-led gallery stops, interactive story times in the galleries, and live performances.

Schedule highlights include:
11 AM: Story time with Chattahoochee Valley Libraries, featuring Ablaze With Color: A Story of Painter Alma Thomas and Claudette Colvin: I Want Freedom Now!
11:30 AM–12 PM: Live performance by the Black Schwob Society in the Galleria
1:30 PM: Story time featuring Draw What You See: The Life and Art of Benny Andrews

Food will be available for purchase from Flavors of Philly. Additional timed activities may be added—check back for updates as the festival approaches.
