The first whitewater rafters in Columbus floated down the Chattahoochee River in May 2013. Since then, the world’s longest urban whitewater course has been the catalyst for economic development up and down the riverbank.
This exhibition presents an overview of activities along the Chattahoochee River in Columbus’ industrial past, as well as over the last 15 years. The renovation of historic mill buildings has played a major role in the river’s revitalization, as has environmental stewardship of the Chattahoochee and its native plants, including the shoal spider lily. Entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, city officials, and civic leaders continue to collaborate as thousands of locals and visitors alike use the river and Riverwalk for recreation and commerce.
