It all started with a field trip.

Before Amy Sherald became one of the most celebrated artists in America, she was a student visiting The Columbus Museum.

In this interview, Bo Bartlett shares how @Asherald was inspired by seeing one of his paintings during a school field trip to COMU and reflects on painting her portrait years later as part of his series honoring local artists and changemakers.

Now part of The Columbus Museum’s permanent collection, the portrait captures a remarkable full-circle story rooted right here in Columbus.
